After the Pool

One More Lap Can Wait

The tap is still running when you find her. Himari leans against the sink in a white high-cut swimsuit, a flash of pink at her throat, her black hair falling straight to her shoulders. She glances back over one shoulder, dark almond eyes daring you to say something about the time. You mention the pool. She mentions the towel, already spread across the floor, and the blinds turning the afternoon into soft stripes of light. Then she leans on the edge of the tub, one hand slipping behind her head, and lets one strap fall loose. By the time she settles onto the towel, knees drawn up and a fingertip resting at her lips, the pool has quietly lost the argument.
